Mary Komasa is a special entity in Polish show business. She seems to flow with the mainstream, using the record contract with the phonographic giant, yet she maintains artistic independence.
She sings about matters concerning hundreds of thousands of girls and women, yet she distanses herself from mass popularity. Radically – she does not sing in her native language.
– “Disarm” is a tribute to my generation of shooting stars. A testimony to the change I experienced and the consequences I had to face – says the artist. – This is a record of my search for beauty and hope in a crumbling world. I had to redefine myself. Now I feel myself again.
In her second outstanding album, Mary combined a classical orchestra with electronics – a natural, wise and effective combination, thanks to which each song sounds a bit different, remaining in a convention of verbal-musical, extremely lyrical monodrama.
The singer is accompanied by a live string quartet and Antoni Komasa-Łazarkiewicz – a recognized film music composer, husband, co-worker and best friend. Which is the optimistic point of this short announcement: appearances (and promotional strategies) are misleading, art does not always grow out of despair and loneliness.
