Without the Stage Song Contest there would be no Stage Songs Review. It is just the competition – four decades ago – that gave rise to the Wroclaw festival. The Contest was the place where many outstanding vocalists made their stage debut, and many of songs that later became classics of the genre had their first, original performance.
With respect for the traditions of the Review , the organizers have introduced THE CANON OF STAGE SONG. Of the three songs prepared for the qualification one has to be chosen from the legacy of the following artists: Jacques Brel, Bertolt Brecht, Nick Cave, Wojciech Młynarski, Jeremi Przybora, Tom Waits, Kurt Weill, Vladimir Vysotsky, or from the repertoire of Edith Piaf or Czeslaw Niemen.
The competition consists of three stages:
Stage I – hearing – The Musical Theatre Capitol, February 26 and 27 - see results
Stage II – performance before the audience – March 24, 2017 – The Musical Theatre Capitol, Big Stage – hosted by Paweł Gołębski
Stage III – The Finale Concert – March 31, 2017 – The Musical Theatre Capitol, Big Stage
Each of the finalists will receive a prize of 3,000 zlotys for entering the Finale.
The awards in the Finale are: Grand Prix – Toucan Gold statuette and 25,000 zlotys, journalists’ award – Toucan of Journalists and the audience award – Toucan of Audience.
ZAiKS Association will award a prize of 10,000 zlotys for the best performance of a Polish song, a German-Polish Cultural Association Polonica – 2,000 zlotys and an invitation to participate in the Festival Rock & Chanson in Cologne.
